Candidate for DuPage County Board - District 4 Vote 07 November 2006 |

My campaign is about bringing openness and fiscal responsibility to DuPage County government. Only with complete honesty and candor can there be accountability and responsive government. On November 7, 2006, DuPage voters in County Board District 4 will have a real choice. Voters can vote for a candidate who believes that informing the public is more than an obligation; rather it is the best way to foster interest, solicit other views, encourage participation, and, ultimately, improve the way we live and work in DuPage County. MY PLATFORM Accountability to Voters I will work to increase public participation in, and awareness of, the issues before the County Board. I will make the Board’s deliberations public whenever possible, including postings on the County Board website in an easy-to-read format that everybody can use. I will, through visits to community groups, regular press releases, and my interactive website, strive to keep voters and taxpayers better informed about their government, believing that only an informed public can make government responsive to its needs. Fiscal Responsibility I will work to make the County Board budget more transparent to taxpaying voters and find ways to save money through smarter spending. Citizens and government watchdog groups should not need to sue to see the county budget. Land Development While open space is a valued commodity in DuPage County, we see stretches of commercially zoned land that could be tax-generating but instead sits idle for years at a time. At the same time, there are residential concerns with teardowns and construction trucks in quiet neighborhoods. The County Board has to weigh concerns with long-term benefits as it seeks solutions to development challenges. Transportation Challenges At the same time that DuPage County roads are busy and mass transportation is not always available when and where citizens need it, there is concern that open space for walkways and bicycle paths be preserved for quality of life. I will seek ways to work with businesses, community groups, and government to address traffic problems and encourage healthier lifestyles. I believe that good transportation benefits homeowners and businesses alike. As an elected member of the DuPage County Board, I will advocate fiscal responsibility, open communication, and accountable government that actively solicits public views and advice. I believe that, by working together, the public and its elected officials can find solutions to difficult challenges.
